Expository Writing SkillsMany of today's youth have poor writing skills. Therefore, I like to assign writing tasks that reinforce writing and organizational skills. (15) Writing/Expository and Procedural Texts. Students write expository and procedural or work-related texts to communicate ideas and information to specific audiences for specific purposes. Students are expected to: (D) produce a multimedia presentation (e.g., documentary, class newspaper, docudrama, infomercial, visual or textual parodies, theatrical production) with graphics, images, and sound that conveys a distinctive point of view and appeals to a specific audience. How would you describe the process of critical thinking in your own words?

1. Watch this TEASe on critical thinking. Consider which areas targeted in the video reflect your content area.
2. Create a delicious account to tag and track websites that you find useful during this Unit exercise. Email a link to your delicious page. 3. Collect data related to a text reading in your content area. Data can be student raw scores on 10 questions which requires a summary of the reading. Then chart the student scores in a spread sheet. Finally prepare a graph that properly illustrates the data you collected. Email me a jpg file of your Graph. 4. Complete this Treasure Hunt on critical thinking. 5. Create a sample lesson: have your students create a Blog to record their weekly reflections on content taught in your class. Consider this tool as a means to evaluate student analysis of your weekly lessons. 6. View this activity on Technology Pedagogy and Content Knowledge. Prepare a reflection piece on TPACK. Final Project : Create a TEDx style videoUsing a simple digital camera, a clear stage similar to TEDx, and no written script, deliver a motivational TED Talk about what you have learned from the completion of this unit. How would motivate either students to learn or teachers to teach critical thinking skills.
Final Project Rubric. There are five assessment areas, each worth 20 points. Level 4 = 20, Level 3 = 15, Level 2 = 12, and Level 1 = 10 points. |
